Many changes for FOTGS

Friends of the Good Samaritans underwent many exciting changes in 2016. To provide a more relational experience to our current and future sponsors, we rebranded the organization and remodeled our website for a user-friendly and interactive experience. We updated our donor software and giving platform to provide easy and secure online giving for our donors. Our permanent office also moved to Wilmore, KY. Thank you for your patience during this transformative year.

Schools close…”New Delhi is the most polluted city on Earth right now”

India’s over population leads to pollution problems that effect the quality of life of so many children.

In November, the Good Samaritan School was ordered by the government to close for over a week due to the dangerous level of toxins in the air caused by pollution. It was reported by our staff at the school that the smog was so heavy that it became difficult to breathe anywhere outdoors. Many of the children and staff members suffered from various respiratory illnesses as a result. One staff member’s wife passed away due to health problems precipitated by the air quality. Please pray for India and their government to enforce regulations to improve air quality and for the health and safety of the staff and children.

Life principle #3

Life principles from our founder, Dr. Ananthi Jebasingh

It is a joy to contact you through this email. As I eagerly look forward to coming to US to meet with you and brief you in person about how the children are developing in academics and character I would like to share the fifth life principle which is in Proverbs 3:13-20.

Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.

Find wisdom and gain understanding. How? Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. When there is no fear of God or God is not understood in the proper way, it boomerangs as lack of wisdom. When we do not commit ourselves to the Lord, again our own understanding takes the upper hand. This is a daily struggle in life. It is a life long process to gain true wisdom which moulds our life. Every situation we face brings us closer to being Christ like in life so that when finally we are taken up to be with him, we will be like him.

May the Lord our God, Jesus our Savior give us this wonderful privilege.

For the lost children of India,

Life principle #2

Life principles from our founder, Dr. Ananthi Jebasingh

From Proverbs Chapter 3:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

When we depend on our own scientific thinking and enterprising skills come the injunction “trust in the Lord.” Not only ‘trust’ but also acknowledge! A very difficult proposition in these days of knowledge outbursts!

The result: our paths are made smooth and straight! When we go through the nuances of life and are often baffled where to turn and what road to choose, this life principle is like lowering an anchor in the troubled tossed sea of life and finding rest in the storm.

This is what we teach the children who newly put their trust in the Lord.

We, in India pray for every one of you there supporting and loving the children. May His abiding presence be the anchor in your life.

For the lost children of India,
Ananthi Jebasingh

Life principle #1

Life principles from our founder, Dr. Ananthi Jebasingh

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. (Pro. 3: 3 and 4)

God expects us to exercise love and faithfulness in all our real life situations. Noah loved God and was faithful in obeying His commands. Jonah loved God but was not faithful in obeying Him. He could not show love to the sinful Ninevites! Sin is all around us. We need to hate the sin but not the sinner. We have to follow Jesus’ example. Faithfulness is to be first towards God and then to man.

When I heard of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, I searched the newspapers in New Delhi. Just one out of the 10 had reported the tragedy. The next day though all the sad stories, one line stood out clear. “The Haitians have just one thing to be thankful for: that they are next door to the United States of America!” Your love and faithfulness is known to the world.

Unwanted girls of the slum

Three precious little girls lost their lives in the slum because they were unwanted by their mother and seen as a burden to their family. This story is sadly a common one among the downtrodden population that we work with in the slum. In India, among the poor classes of society, giving birth to a girl is a burden because in order to marry them, a dowry must be paid to the groom and his family. Many poor families cannot afford a dowry and according to the culture, the girls are unable to marry and will remain a financial burden for the family. Boys are prized and seen as future earners for the family, while so many girls are abandoned or killed.

Providing education for girls changes their fate. When a little girl is enrolled at the Good Samaritan School her very life is provided for through the value of education. The family and community begin to understand that girls can be earners for the family whether they marry or not. We thank God for every child that He has brought to us and the opportunity we have to care for them and give them a chance for a better future. Every sponsorship truly transforms the life of a child from the slum. Please sponsor a child today.
